Team Brigham Achieves Top Performance at Boston Marathon
Team Brigham finishing times Marathoners Seek Treatment at BWH
One hundred and nineteen runners, including 15 BWH employees, laced up their sneakers and took to the roadways as part of Team Brigham on Monday, running alongside the more than 20,000 participants in the 108th Boston Marathon.
The team not only stepped up to the challenge of running 26.2 miles on an unseasonably warm day in Boston, but also committed to the goal of raising $350,000 for BWH’s Community Health Initiatives program.
The runners began training in November 2003, logging 20+ miles on their own during the week and joining their team members for group runs on Saturday mornings. Each Saturday run took place along a portion of the actual marathon route, allowing the team to get a feel for the actual course.
“It is wonderful to see so many BWH employees actively support the programs at the hospital beyond their day-to-day jobs,” said Linda Werman, Team Brigham coordinator. “It is a demonstration that they are committed to the hospital’s mission, and it isn’t just a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job.”
